Hi Todd. Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m glad to know it worked for your little escape artist as it’s one of my top recommendations for dogs that try to slip out.

The flagline suppports her whole body and no matter how hard she tries she can’t wiggle out of it. The second rear strap fits nicely around her stomach and can’t pull over her chest. Great work ruffwear! Thank you for making it in a XXS.

I have not. Personally, I am not a fan of that style harness.

Have you tried the Hurtta H harness as well? We have the Ezydog harnesses for our tweenies now and the H type Hurtta looks like the same type but padded and maybe better.

Thanks

Hi Palcus. Summit and Gretel ‘s chest circumference is between 15.5 and 16.5 inches. They both wear the XXS (the size chart says that size fits a chest of 13-17 inches (33-43 cm). I hope that helps.

What size of the ruffwear flagline did you buy? My dachshund has a 40cm chest (about 15.7 inches).

I have tried them. The Quick Fit harness anyway. When my Dachshunds get on a scent, they can pull really hard. The strap that goes across the front of the chest puts pressure on their throats and causes them to choke and cough. I’m glad they work for your dogs though.

ezydog harnes . They are awesome, great quality. I’ve got 2 shitzu 1 has a small the other a extra small. They would fit most small dogs and I think u can get even smaller that a extra small. Neck and chest are adjustable, easy to put on. My dogs are 18.5 inches and 21 inches around the chest. They look like better quality than these ones, and there easier to put on

Hi Camilla. Actually, a collar is more dangerous for the back, and especially the neck which is also prone to severe disk herniations. than a harness. I’m perplexed as to why your breeder said a collar is better. Here is my article that explains more and may clear up some of your confusion. https://youdidwhatwithyourweiner.com/why-your-dachshund-should-wear-a-harness-for-walking/ The bottom line is, definitely switch to a harness.

I’ve always used normal collars for now, since her breeder has always suggested me to keep using it in order to avoid back sollecitations caused by the leash attached to the harness. However, since we like go outdoor a lot, I think that a good harness will fit her better, but in some ways I’m still a bit concerned: are they safe for their back when they pull? What is the best harness that distributes the weight away from their spinal chord?
Thank you a lot for your advice!!!

I just moved to Denver and I have a 3 year old mini dachshund that I’m wanting to start hiking with. His neck measurement was 12″ and his chest was 17″-18″. He has some healed broken ribs from when he was a puppy and I was curious which size you think I should order? Just not sure if the 18-22″ would be too big or if he needs the room for his ribs?

Thank you!

Yes, we have. We were one of the original product testers before it became available to the public. It’s a good harness but just didn’t quite fit my miniature Dachshunds right and the strap still sat in the arm pit, which is the cause of most of our chafing issues. The Hi & Light is a lighter, more flexible version of the Front Range harness at fit a little better because it wasn’t so stiff. https://ruffwear.com/products/hi-and-light-dog-harness

I just ordered one of of these for my docker because we are getting into doing long hikes. Since he is a mix his body is not exactly like that of a dachshund, but he does have the very prominent breast bone and pretty short front legs. I’m curious, have you ever tried the ruffwear front range harnass? I was thinking of trying that one as well, but it’s a little more pricey so I’m not sure.

Hi Tracey. A 12 week old puppy is going to grow a lot. I would suggest buying a cheap harness, that is the correct size to fit right now, and preferably adjustable, and wait to buy this harness until your Dachshund is full grown (11 months or so). Personally, I did buy two of these over the course of my puppy’s growing period but that was after going through 3 cheap harnesses to tide her over while she was growing. Sometimes she grew out of a harness in just a couple weeks!

They’re so simple but work so well. I like the lingonberry (? – red) color too.
